Accelawriter Course List:

All Accelawriter classes conform to the California standards for writing at the appropriate grade level. Each course includes six print lessons and two writing assignments, which are completed in three drafts each. Students are assigned a personal writing coach who tutors them through the course, providing feedback and evaluation on every submitted draft. Numbers in parentheses refer to the corresponding California standard.

Accelawriter Middle School Courses 2011-2012

  Description
6th Grade A In this first 6th grade course, students will compose an imaginative first-person story (2.1) and a descriptive paper on an object of either particular beauty or ugliness (2.2) .
6th Grade B Students in 6th Grade B will write, as an introduction to exposition, a eulogy for a cartoon character (2.2) and a persuasive essay on the best pet (2.5).
7th Grade A In this course, students will compose a narrative on an unlikely friendship (2.1) and a brief biographical report (2.3).
7th Grade B This course includes an exercise in writing a summary (2.5) and a persuasive essay nominating a Parent, Teacher, or Student of the Year (2.4).
8th Grade A Students in the first 8th grade course will compose a first-person fictional narrative about a surprising metamorphosis (2.1) and a persuasive essay on something the student strongly believes (2.4).
8th Grade B This course asks students to write an essay for a fictitious summer job (2.5) and an informal technical manual (2.6).

 

Accelawriter High School Courses 2011-2012

9th Grade A In this first 9th grade course, students will complete an autobiographical narrative (2.1) and a comparison/contrast essay (2.3).
9th Grade B Students in 9th Grade B will compose a business letter (2.5 ) and an expository process paper (2.3).
10th Grade A In this course, students will compose a short, original short story (2.1) and a review of a movie or a musical recording of their choice (2.4).
10th Grade B This course includes a simple technical writing project (2.6) and an analytical essay (2.3).
11th Grade A In this 11th grade course, students will complete a short, fictional narrative (2.1) and a letter to the editor (2.3).
11th Grade B Students in 11th Grade B will compose a reflective composition on a personal experience (2.3) and a cover letter for a resume (2.5).
12th Grade A In this course, students will compose a short, fictional narrative (2.1) and a quotation response essay (2.3).
12th Grade A This course includes a reflective composition on culture (2.3) and a report on a historical event (2.4).
