Accelawriter offers a series of structured tutorial writing courses for students in grades 6-12. For each grade level, there are three separate 6-week courses. That’s up to 18 weeks of writing instruction each year.
The schedule is flexible, with new courses beginning every two weeks during the school year. See below for the course schedule or view a list of courses.
Students in each course are assigned one of our friendly, expert writing coaches who will provide personal feedback and tutoring throughout the course session. Each week, enrolled students will login in to our website and download a simple, engaging writing lesson and the week’s writing assignment. Students simply read the lesson and complete the prescribed assignment on a word processor. By week’s end, we ask students to submit the completed assignment at our website where their writing coach will provide comments and return it. See the What They Do page for examples of writing coach feedback. Final drafts also receive a formal, numeric assessment score.
Writing coaches are available to their students and your teachers via e-mail throughout the week. In fact, your participating teachers have special access to all of their students’ work and assessment reports throughout each course.
All writing assignments are interesting, age-appropriate, and completed over three drafts. This means that writing coaches work together with students through the process, coaching, correcting, and suggesting ways to improve. This cooperative process emphasis is the key to our success. The assignments are varied and cover all four major modes of writing: narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive.
